If it has a big key, then yes you need one... If it has a thinner key then no you don't 97 I dont think so.. On my wifes 98 I had to use the "bulb" style from DEI [forgot the p/n on it]   But that worked great!

I had to install a remote start to a Ford Explorer and tried to use a 555F but the bypass never learned the key code can anyone tell me exactly how to program it cause I tried to do it . I used the two keys like the instructions say and I connected the red wire to constant and the blue to the remote start wire but the car would not start with the alarm. I turned the key till the security light turned off then I did it with the other key but nothing. It attempted to but was never successful. Do i have to put the chip anywhere in particular during this process. Any help is appreciated.. Thanx in advance.

After the 2nd key, you know your suppose to place the pellet infront of the key cylinder then remote start.
I usually stick it as close to the key cylinder as i can for the first remote start attempt.
I can usually get the 555f to program on fords with first attempt.

after the second key I stuck it where the key would go but nothing. Just wondering if during the programming if the pellet should be anywhere in particular or maybe just a bad 555F. Should the blue be grounded during this process or just the constant connected and the ground only when auto started.

dont worry about the pellet during program of first 2 key.
blue wire needs to connect to status wire or your starter.
programming the 555 is the exact same a programming a new key to the ford.
Wat year explorer? a year that can use the 555f i hope.

yes, when learning the pellet i ground the status (blue) wire... then after it's learned you connect the status to the unit.... just like learning the 555C & 556C as well......
