you do need the resistors to make it work, as far as the alarm outputs being + or - outputs, it doesn't matter as the alarm switches the relays, which then switches the resistor onto the lock/unlock wire to -12v
If you use postive output from the alarm, then you need to ground the other side of the relay coil, if you use negative output from the alarm then you need to connect +12v to the other side of the coil (via a fuse of course)
