I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with a bulldog remote starter. To the best of my knowledge my car has Passlock II security system so that's the instructions I'm following to install the DEI 555L bypass module. I've hooked it all up to the correct wires, except I'm not sure what yellow wire is the resistance wire. There are numerous yellow wires. I've tried 3 of them with no luck. The unit does not bypass anything as it's hooked up now. Either the unit isn't learing the code, or i don't have the right resistance wire connected, which I'm pretty sure is the problem. The wires i have tried are, 1. Bright Yellow, 2. Light Yellow, 3. Yellow with Black stripe. Does anyone know where this wire is? Maybe it's not even yellow, I don't know. Any help would be appreciated Thanks.

99 grandprix doesn't use a 555L for bypass

Well it has factory anti-theft system so it obviously has security that needs to be bypassed. I however did not know I need the 555G :( I can not find any information for this car's factory system but i figured it had passlock II so i'd use the 555L. Extreme1, how did u find out which bypass I need? Do you have experience with '99 Grand Prix cuz i could use some help if you have. I hope i don't have to buy another bypass module. I already have a bulldog #791, and now this DEI 555L. What's the main difference in the 555L versus 555G? Thanks for the information.

why do you assume it has a factory security just curious.  also it looks like you could also use a 555u if you did in fact have passkey 3. remember with the 555u you must sacrifice a key.

It has Remote Keyless Entry W/Factory Anti-Theft System. I have the dealership window sheet with all the specs and features it has. It lists "Theft Deterrent System". I know it's not one of those transponder ones cuz none of the keys I have have that little chip on them. I just found a site that lists a 1999 Grand Prix having VATS Key Anti-Theft system. I originally tried hooking up the bulldog #791 unit with the VATS instructions. Maybe I'll try that again and see if I can get it working this time. I really don't want to buy another bypass module. :(

that vehicle does not need a 555l, It may possibly have VATS  on it. the way to tell is if on the metal part of you key, you have a little black "chip" on either side. this is a resistance based immobilizer system. this should explain why you can't find the right wire.

see now VATS is just a resistor pellet imbedded in the keyshaft.
555L doesn't work well for vats, I use a PL2002 for vats.

Is there a reliable/incluisive chart out there to see who has Vats, transponder /passkey/Lock, I, II, III, .....

Vats was old, and the resistor was in plain view on the shank, but the now they're hidden right?

For instance I've got a '97 Grand Prix. No factory Theft System. My manual mentions Theft Deterrent (but only for those that were optioned).

I don't think I have any of these. One chart agrees, but another says  "transponder".
