Ok, here is my question. I have been looking into Ipod integration fo r my car and i had an idea. I want to know if it is possible to run the ipod in it's home cradle (ipod to dual rca) and from there to a variable out voltage line out converter. Then match the LOC to the same power as my HU and have the LOC rcas run into one side of a Male to two female rca splitter, with my HU signale going into the other. I wire an additional remote wite with a switch to the amp. Then I just turn the HU off, switch on the amp, and I have an Ipod acting as my HU. While I realize that this is goig to mean sacrificeing the tuning capabilities of the HU and Processor, but is there any reason it wouldn't work?

Ps the reason to match the LOC to my HU power is so the same amp setting will work for the ipod as for my hu

I might be misusing the term LOC, I might be talking about a Line Driver, please forgive my ignorance. Basically I want either the above mentioned idea, or a preamp eq, either way, so long as it has 4 volt outputs, I'd need four outputs and one sub out.

There is a unit that will do all of this without y-cables. The unit is the Peripheral SS2P. It has 2 source in / 1 out with independent gain settings for both inputs. This unit and a 3 position switch to toggle sources is all you would need.

the FM mods are complete garbage in my opinion, I had on for my SAT radio and was so unhappy that I had to cancel my SAT radio subscription. If my HU had any AUX inputs this thread would have never existed.

04mdx, I will look into this unit you are describing, it certianly sounds good. can you elaborate on how to wire the 3 poisiton toggle you are talking about. how many poles? how many throws? wire what to what

would something like this work, any idea about how to find the output voltage?

the peripheral item won't unfortunatly. I' would need three of them, i have front rear and sub rcas now, so I'd need one of those for each

i dont think you understand - that peripherial unit created AUX inputs. No need to find evrey speaker wire. There are several companies that make AUX inputs, PAC, Periphial, Soundgate, etc. They mostly use the Cd changer input and convert it to regular RCA's so you can use it for anything.

What kind of car do you ahve and what stereo is in it? Please me specific with year make and model.

ok, here's why this is more complicated than you all see. I currently have a clarion drx9575z running to a dph7500z. from the HU to the processor is clarion CeNet cable, from the processor to the amps are three rca pairs, front, rear, and sub. Since my HU has no AUX inputs, and the changer controls, are being used to control the processor. so, as you can see. it isn't a simple plug and play to add an IPOD. so my question is how can i add the IPOD? the idea I have posed is to use the ipod as the source unit, run it through a preamp eq, with front rear and sub outs, and then connect them to the amp. shouldn't be a problem so long as they aren't both on at the same time. doesn anyone have any input or other suggestions?

Change out your Clarion and buy and Alpine HU with the new KCA-420i iPod adapter.  This piece will give you complete control of your iPod through the HU.  You can lock the iPod away and not even need to see it.  Oh, by the way, it charges your iPod as well.
