If you're gonna go thru the trouble of fabricating new speaker mounting places, I would go ahead and make the large enough for 6.5" speakers. You will get more full range sound with a 6.5" than wih a 3" speaker.

I have a little clio i wanted to upgrade my sound system, so far i have bought a sony cd/mp3 player, and some 4inch 120watt speakers which i have fitted in the font to replace my factory speakers. my head unit has 4 outputs 50watts per channel (i think)
so i tested it out, and i was dissapointed, the speakers are small and dont put out any bottom end, although they are pretty good for high end.
at the moment i cant splash out on sub and amp, i want some speakers for the back, but i want some nice sounding bass which gives a more full sound in the car, which (size and power) speakers should i get? i have no clue, i thought i should have gotten 50watt speakers for the front and back, someone told me i need some head room for a better sound. can someone please help me choose the best speakers

Don't worry so much about the power rating on the speakers, that makes no difference to how they sound.  I don't know anything about your vehicle.  What size speakers can you fit into the factory openings?

You should go to a car audio shop (or wherever you buy your stuff from) and listen to different speakers they have on display. What size of speakers do you have in the back?

i have only replaced the factory speakers in the front, they are 4inch the space in there is small so i couldnt fit anything bigger in there.
I do not have speakers in the back yet, so the sound isnt very good at the moment.
i spent 35 quid on the speakers they are sony xplod 120w i just want to know which size and power to get for the back speakers

One thing that I would suggest is, looking into a way to upgrade your front channel first. Look at doing some kicks with at least a set of 5.25"s. Most of us usually use the rears as fill only, like me, I am using as set og Diamond Audio 6.5" components in the front and a cheap set of MTX 6.5" in the rear.

Even with the addition on the rear speakers, I highly doubt that you will like the sound.

Where are the front speakers located in this car? Maybe we can give you some ideas as to how you could upgrade them.
