Beware, these babies eat batteries even faster than the old ones!!

I'm using the same battery for a month and she's still goin' and goin' and goin' . . .

It's the original GP battery that came with it. Mind you, it's on it's last leg but it's been showing this for over a week. I'm pushing it to the limit to see when it gives up (I have a spare) and how much I can push it beyond the "dead" point. Just like when the reserve fuel light comes on in your car it doesn't mean the tank's empty, it just means, "Hmm, maybe you should look into this."

Here are some hard facts on power output of DEI TX's:

465T = 3 uW = 0.000003 watts  (really old scatch code suckers)

471T = 16 uW = 0.000016 watts

475T = 30 uW = 0.000030

7701 = 116 mW = 0.116 watts !!! (The new SST 2-way TX)

Power = Voltage x Current

This is a fundamental law which cannot be circumvented = you want power (range,strength, distance) then it's gonna cost and batteries are the cost for range.

Can't afford to change batteries every month or so? No problem - there's always HF - with a 150 foot range. New Viper 5900 1 Mile Unit - Page 3 -- posted image.

true, but from a consumer point of view... i drive to the shop in the morning and home again at night, so i lock and unlock my doors once a day and havent needed to R/S the vehicle yet (short of testing) and my battery is almost dead after about 3-4 weeks.... whats it going to be like for a guy who uses his/her vehicle a lot and R/S's it a few times a day??

he/she will be popping batteries in these babies every 1-2 weeks......   hey, i'm all for the pro's of these units but i'm not afraid to offer up the con's as well, after all i'm not on Directed's payroll.....

I'm sure pretty soon they'll come out with a built in lithium ion setup with a night stand charger like cell phones. As it is now 75% of the people that see my 791xv remote say "Wow, that's a tiny cell phone, I didn't know they made them that small!"

Although a dc power jack built in that runs to a cigarette lighter cord wouldn't be a bad idea. Maybe one of you DEI dealers should suggest it to the R&D team.

To Costel. It's based on the 791 not the 5000 so it has NO on-board shock but rather two external ports.

Range has always been an interesting conversation piece. Like ringojam said you better have the legs of sub four-minute-miler Steve_Scott to see who's messin' with yer ride when it's a mile away! But when you work downtown or at a factory or a mall it's reassuring to know that you did indeed lock the doors and armed the sytem by checking your remote without having to wait 'til your break to jog down to your car to confirm it.

Even cooler to be able to remote start your car from inside the aforementioned locations without having to jump on a Segway and try to get to the door nearest your car and need to "chin" the remote praying that she starts (only to find out that you should have brought an ax with you cause it didn't start and it's encased in an inch of ice! - not cool).

Steve Scott is the man, I ran for him in college.  I'm very interested in upgrading from my 791

Eye am so re todd did.
