Why would you guys wanna give away all your hard learned information, don't you realise it will put you otta business one day, or at least money out of your pocket and only helps the guys selling product over the internet?
Or guys "selling" banner space. Like this site.

Why are you here? Do you need something? Or are you killing time?

I myself have been in this business for nearly 20 years. I learn from this site every day. And I am thanfull for it.

And I am more than happy to share the tiny bit of knowledge I might have to some poor guy struggling with a problem I might have struggled with

only to find the answer from someone here.....    Again.... why are you here?

Well I am just here..why does it matter "why'? This industry (if you can call it that) is shrinking due to various factors..If it was a "trade only" forum, I would agree with you 100%..
And helping someone fix a flat tire is one thing, giving away your 20+ years of hard earned experience to someone who is buying products at cut throat prices to avoid having you make a profit is another..
I am all for helping someone who had a product installed and has a problem, but to help someone who purchased something somewhere else is not a smart move.

You know, I've been doing car stereo installation on the side for about 7 years, and b/c of this website and the wonderful people that are willings to share their information, I've probably trippled my knowledge in the past 6 mo or so. I'm much more confident when someone asks if I can do something... and I know if I do run into another problem, I can come back here and there will be someone that can help me. I for one love this site.

...don't crush the weasel...

I agree. Sharing information from the collective helps everyone out and I've always believed what goes around comes around. I do the same thing with the classic car sites I hang out at too.

Just because we give you the instructions and you have the ingredients to bake a cake..... doesn't mean that your a baker. Developing the skills and learning the ins and outs of the industry takes years if not decades.
I've been in the industry since I was 16 years old and I'm still learning about how to fiberglass in new ways and develop my other skills through the forums. Telling my secrets to someone will not make them an instant guru but it will help them in their current situation and if anything it will open their eyes to the fact that installation and custom work is not as easy as it seems.
You get what you pay for and years of experience will get you paid, where as hours of experience gets a cheap job done.

A thought of mine to add...
just because you have all the information doesn't mean you have the skill to use it and be an instant professional. Tricks and tips can get you so far, but actual hands on experience from years of setting up systems or security is where most skill comes from.

Information learned from this forum helps everybody, from beginners to professionals. I've yet to see a person that knows everything about everything. People need help from time to time. There are lots of knowledgeable people that will go out of their way to help you if you'll let them.
