Hi, this is my first post here and man do i love this site. every seems to pitch in. So this is gunna be my first install for remote start/keyless entry/alarm combo.
I've done radios and all those gadgets but not this stuff. But i have "cs" and i tend to use it alot hahaanyways
i have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with no factory keyless entry but i do have factory power locks.
heres the manual its in (pdf form) for the unit im gunna put in.
first question: the unit has a relay built in for the door locks and if you take a look at pg 23 it shows reverse polarity system, which iam about 95% sure thats what my truck has. if i do as this diagram shows will i be good? im thinking tying into lock side ORANGE / purple and unlock side pink/purple in my truck. will that unlock both doors?
second, the wiring diagram on here for my truck says neutral safety wire. what would that hook to on the unit im installing? or is it obsolete?
and on pg 24 under the optional start module diagram it says remote start input (-) and remote start output (-) 500ma would you happen to know what these would connect to?
sorry for the longness i understand if you guys make fun of me haha. im sure ill have more newb questions. thanks for the future response
p.s. ive been researching for a week now couldnt find my answers

the wires for locks/unlock are correct. the unlock wire will unlock both doors. the locking system is 5wire REVERSE polarity. you will need 2relays to do this setup.

on the unit, if automatic, it will ask for a ebrake or parking brake connection, take that wire from the unit and just ground it. if its a manual remote start, you will need to connect the parking brake connection to the trucks neutral safety. this makes sure the manual tranny car is not in gear and can not start.

remote start input is used to trigger the remote start sequence from an additional source. in your case, it is not reqired. just cut the wire and tape up the end properly. when you say remote start output, does it mention status output or "ground when running" ? if so that wire will go to ground when you remote start for powering bypass modules etc.

its always good to ask questions. keep us posted

First, what unit are you installing? Your upload of any .pdf form was unsuccessful.

Door locks:

If I remember correctly, this is a 5 wire system for door locks. Do a search on that and you will find a diagram.

Neutral Safety Wire:

If this is an automatic tranmission, then it is obsolete for you.

thanks guys i kinda figured that about the neutral safety wire. But for the locks again (im getting pretty confused) You say its a 5 wire reverse polarity. I have looked at the diagrams to install relays and have only seen a 5 wire diagram(doesnt mention reverse polarity) and a reverspolarity/actuator diagram, but this one states its just like the 5 wire setup, but has no switch. Exactly which one would i use? thanks again, dennis

the unit has a relay built in for the door locks and if you take a look at pg 23 it shows reverse polarity system wiring diagram. if i wire it up like that to my wires will it work or do i still need to add the relays? thanks dennis

I find the description 5 wire infuriating and inaccurate!  What you are doing is simply relay interrupting existing lock/unlock motor wires. In fact it's exactly the same as adding actuators but the grounds go back to the control unit. In fact 4 or 6 wire would be more accurate. Ah well there goes the resolution about being laid back. Lets go and have a ciggie.

ok scratch the [pyle unit, i just picked up a avital 4103 remote start and keyless. I think im pretty much set on how it hooks up. besides the small 4 pin connector that is labeled
1 blue    status output
2 orange   (-) accessory output
3 purple   (-) starter output
4 pink     (-) starter output
it says nothing of these in the manual.
what r they for and do i need to use them?
thanks for all your help
